MADE BY A TRAVELING FAMILY

The guides we wished we had.

“We loved the focus of a scavenger hunt—but wanted more imagination, reflection, creativity, and room for the whole family to play.”

Quill & Quest grew from traveling with three curious girls and learning a simple truth: kids connect with a city when they have something meaningful to do inside it.

So every guide begins with real family experience, gets tested against the actual place, and is designed to create better days—not busier ones.

Early Quill and Quest Washington map and questing logbook spreads developed under Hadia Akbar's art direction.

THE HUMAN DESIGN BEHIND THE QUEST

Built by a family. Shaped by a human designer.

Quill & Quest began as the travel games Eric Koester created for his own children. Artist and designer Hadia Akbar (@talhacanva) helped turn that family idea into a visual system young explorers could actually use—shaping the original page language, quest experience, and artwork that became the human-designed foundation for the series.

A NOTE FROM THE GUILD

The story world meets the real one.

In The Pennymores, young writers learn that every place holds stories, clues, and secrets waiting to be discovered. Quill & Quest carries that same spirit into the real world.

You don’t need to know the novels to begin. Borrow the Guild’s curiosity, pack a pencil, and make the adventure your own.

FIELD QUESTIONS

For grown-ups planning the quest.

What ages are Quill & Quest books for?

They are designed primarily for ages 8–12, with activities younger explorers can do with help and questions older kids and adults can enjoy together.

Is this an itinerary or a scavenger hunt?

It is both more flexible and more playful: choose quests in any order, use the field challenges at the places you visit, and let the guide help shape a day that fits your family.

Do we need to complete every activity?

No. Choose a quick quest, follow the full point path, or take the creative route. There is no single correct way through a city.

Can locals use the books?

Absolutely. They are made for visitors and hometown families who want to explore familiar places more deeply.

Are Quill & Quest books part of the Pennymores novels?

They share the Guild’s imaginative spirit and language, but they are real-world field guides—not required story canon.
