A forthcoming Pennymores illustrated storybook

The Pennymores Write Magic

A seven-year-old had one big idea: every kid should be able to enter the world of Pennymores. So our family made a new way in.

It began with Aven

“Every kid should be able to read the Pennymores.”

Aven was seven when she gave us the brief. The original novel carried her name into the world—but she wanted a version she and other young readers could experience now, together with the people they love.

That changed the project. We did not simply shorten Book One. We rebuilt its adventure as an illustration-led, read-aloud story where the central wonder is impossible to miss: in Pennymores, magic is not spoken. Magic is written.

Words, quills and ink can change what happens next.

Aven became our lead kid editor. Her sisters, Quinn and Parker, joined the story table. Their questions, laughs and “wait—what just happened?” moments became real revision notes.

The promise

A complete adventure built to be shared.

The story keeps the heart of Book One—siblings, courage, wonder and a dangerous invisible quill—then lets pictures carry the world and clear, rhythmic language carry the reader.

01

Write it

The children learn that the right word, written with the right quill, can make the impossible real.

02

Find it

When Riley and Lady Julie vanish, Parker and Quinn follow written clues into hidden, astonishing places.

03

Outwrite it

Dagamar wants the power for himself. The children must do more than collect magical objects—they must think like writers.

04

Read it together

Each spread is designed for one more page turn, one more discovery and one more conversation.

Inside the story

Every new place asks for a new kind of courage.

A castle library alive with words. A path of glowing punctuation across the sea. Dwarf tunnels split perfectly in two. A treehouse garden waiting for one word to bloom.

Aven’s notes changed the book

Our toughest reader was also our most useful one.

We read the working book aloud, spread by spread. We watched for delight, confusion, fear and the moments the girls wanted to tell back in their own words. Then we revised.

Clarity note

“Boots needs to be introduced as their cat.”

Villain note

“Dagamar isn’t scary yet. We need to know he is bad sooner.”

Visual note

“Why are the kids running in different directions?”

Story note

“I don’t understand how they saved the day.”

Those observations led to new scenes, clearer action, stronger humor and a climax centered on what makes Pennymores unique: the children do not win because they suddenly become more powerful. They win because they finally learn how to use words with imagination.

How we made it

One spread. One read-aloud. One honest reaction at a time.

Find the heart

Reduce Book One to the family, the quest and the wonder of written magic.

Build the page turn

Give every spread one clear story beat and one dominant visual purpose.

Make the picture

Adapt commissioned character designs into new scenes while protecting continuity.

Read with the girls

Listen for questions, laughter, fear, favorite details and spontaneous retelling.

Rewrite the magic

Revise the words and images until the story makes sense out loud and on the page.

Human-designed from the beginning

The characters came from an artist’s hand.

Artist Nurkaydar Tomiris developed the original character designs and visual identity that made the Pennymores family feel like themselves.

For this storybook, those commissioned designs became the visual source material for new illustrated scenes. Generative-image tools helped adapt the characters into new poses and locations, followed by human creative direction, continuity checks, revision and final approval.

The storybook honors her foundational work clearly—in the book, on this site and wherever the project is presented.
